Hygienists

Our hygienists Mariko and Hiromi are gentle, thorough and effective when treating and maintaining the oral health of our patients.

Mariko completed a Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Japan in 2000 and a Diploma in Children’s Services in 2007, received her NSW Dental Hygiene License in 2008 and went on to receive a Medical Emergency Certificate in 2009.

Hiromi also completed a Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Japan in 1995. Hiromi gained her NSW Dental Hygiene License in 2003.

Both Hiromi and Mariko have practiced in Japan and Australia, meaning they are able to converse in both Japanese and English. At our practice the hygienists work in collaboration with Dr Hocking to help patients sustain a healthy mouth. A hygiene appointment will usually go for approximately 45 minutes. Appointments can be made with Mariko every Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 4pm. Appointments with Hiromi are available on Thursdays 9am to 4pm.

Our Process

It is important for our clinic to understand our patients’ current oral health as part of our treatment planning for implant cases.

How often should you see the hygienist?

Depending on the health of your gums and teeth the number of visits which are necessary may vary. If your condition is stable, the hygienist will recommend that you book a hygiene appointment once every six months to maintain a healthy state. However, if your mouth requires extra care, the hygienist will recommend that you visit more often, for example, once every three months until things are stable and you can return to a six month recall system.

Are x-rays needed?

X-rays are an effective and necessary way for the dentist, hygienist and periodontist to be able to confirm and identify things that may not be clear to the naked eye. Due to the ever-changing nature of your mouth, x-rays must also be updated so that our records are current and so that your oral health is effectively monitored.
