Patient's History

Healthy 42 year old man, presented with missing 25 lower, which had been lost over 5 years ago due to fracture.  He is a light smoker, with excellent oral hygiene.

Treatment Options

Options for replacing this missing tooth include a partial denture, a bridge, or an implant supported crown. This patient did not want a removable denture, and did not want the perfectly healthy neighbouring teeth prepared, and so an implant was considered the most appropriate treatment option here.

Treatment Carried Out

A Straumann implant was placed using a minor closed sinus lift, and was left to osseointegration for a period of three months. He then returned for review and solid abutment connection before returning to his regular referring dentist for the construction of porcelain crown.
Time line - Implants placed—(wait three months)—abutment connection, return to referring dentist for impressions—(two weeks)--Complete.

Patient's Experience

This patient was offered the option of local anaesthetic alone, oral sedation, or Intravenous sedation. As he was not anxious, minor oral sedation along with profound local anaesthetic was used to provide a completely comfortable state.

A Healthy 32 year old man, presented with a mobile unrestorable, apically resorbed 22. He is a non-smoker, with excellent oral hygiene. The surrounding dentition is sound; he has a high smile line, and high aesthetic expectations.

Treatment Options

Options for replacing this missing tooth include a partial denture, a bridge, or an implant supported crown. This patient did not want a removable denture and did not want the perfectly healthy neighbouring teeth prepared. Hence an implant was considered the most appropriate treatment option here.

Treatment Carried Out

Following atraumatic extraction of the 22, the site was carefully curetted to remove any granulation tissue which would interfere with good bone healing. After six weeks a Straumann implant was placed, along with a labial bone graft of the patient own bone taken from the local area, Bioss, and Bioguide.

Following five months healing, with an acrylic temporary denture as provide tooth replacement, the implant was then exposed and an abutment connected. The patient then returned to the referring dentist for the definitive ceramic crown.
Time line - Implants placed along with graft—(wait five months)—return to referring dentist for final impressions taken for screw retained crown—(two weeks)—Completed case.

Patient's Experience

This patient was offered the option of local anaesthetic alone, oral sedation, or Intravenous sedation. As he was not anxious, minor oral sedation along with profound local anaesthetic was used to provide a completely comfortable state.
